Transcontinental Railroad

The Transcontinental Railroad linked the south side of the country and the eastern coast to the fast growing state of California. There were many people who traveled through this and it became a very popular mode of transportation among the people back then. This was important because it linked Califronia to the rest of the union during the Civil War. This is considered by some people to be one of the greatest technological advances of the entire 19th century. This railroad replaced the slower and more dangerous wagon and stage coaches that were the original modes of transporation.
